About Us

We believe parents are the most important part of a child’s education – especially when it comes to a child with a special need. All parents deserve meaningful support as they work through the complicated process of special education for exceptional children.

ExceptionALLY helps parents of children with special needs ensure their children thrive. Our parent support tools give parents a personalized strategy for each child’s IEP experience. With this tool at their fingertips, parents don’t have to feel alone at their next IEP meeting. Finally, they have an ALLY at the table with them.

As parents, you know your child best. However, in an IEP meeting, it can be challenging to express how your child learns best and what they really need to grow and thrive. Our goal is to help you help your exceptional child get what they need in school and beyond.

We spoke with hundreds of parents raising children with special needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Sensory Processing Disorder and many more. Every child is unique and so is every family. Still, many parents shared similar experiences.

By clicking through our parent support questionnaire, parents create an Exceptionality Action Plan. This plan can be used to guide the conversation in an IEP meeting, and as a result, close the communication gap between parents and educators.

We are passionate about our work. ExceptionALLY is built on the combined knowledge of educators, exceptionality experts and, of course, parents like you. Click here to learn more.

A quote to live by

“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” – Muhammad Ali

Why ExceptionALLY?

My sister saw my niece performing below her best. The school said, “Don’t worry, she’s on grade level.” Then, a friendly educator explained the law to my sister. My niece got tested; we learned she has ADHD; we made some changes in her life; and now, my niece is soaring academically and personally. Why did it take an “insider” sharing “hidden” knowledge for the school to support positive changes?

“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms — to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” – Viktor Frankl

Why ExceptionALLY?

As a classroom teacher, I sat across the table from parents in hundreds of IEP meetings. We’d create goals, accommodations and modifications, always wondering if these were the right supports. Too often, the mom was silent, nodding and signing the papers without sharing her voice. The meeting would end, and we’d all leave the room wondering if any of it really made a difference in that child’s life.

It doesn’t have to be like this. Our quest is to partner with every parent, so no one is alone in the process of educating their exceptional child.
